Daily Check-In for Mama
Take a moment to pause and check in with yourself. When you’re busy caring for everyone else, it’s easy to forget that your needs matter too. Sometimes the smallest acts of self-care, like moving your body or connecting with a friend can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.
How are you feeling today?
Take a moment to think about how you are feeling and label it. Are you Happy, Tired, Overwhelmed, Calm, Excited, Connected, Productive, Anxious? Acknowledging and labeling our feelings helps us to better manage our emotions and make sense of what we are feeling. The more you practice this activity the easier it will be to validate your emotions and over time, this skill can also help you to accept them.
When was the last time you had something to drink?
Dehydration can make us feel sluggish. For an energy boost drink some water!
If it’s daytime, have you had the opportunity to get dressed?
If not, get out of your pj’s and put on some clean clothes. Brush your teeth & hair and wash your face. Small tasks can feel overwhelming when you’re busy caring for others, but you will feel refreshed if you take a few minutes to take care of these small details.
Have you connected with a friend today?
Reach out to your network. Send a text to a friend. Pick up the phone and call them. Make a plan to get together with someone later in the week. If you can’t get to someone in person, reach out to your virtual community.
Do you feel Unproductive?
Stop right now and accomplish a small task. Put some dishes in the dishwasher. Fold a few items of laundry. Cut up some fruits/veggies to snack on later. Try not to tackle a long “to do” list. Instead focus on 1 thing that can be accomplished in 5 minutes or less.
Have you snuggled/played with your baby/toddler yet today?
Enjoy a baby cuddle right now, or invite your toddler to read a favourite book on the couch and enjoy a good cuddle. Connect through play. Sign a song, play peek-a- boo, or count their piggies!
Have you moved your body today?
Put on some uplifting music and dance and sing to a few of your favourite songs. Have more time? Head out for a walk or hop online for a live, online Fitmama Strong Class or an on-demand,pre-recorded workout.
Have you given or received a hug in the past day?
If not, seek one out now! A one minute hug with a loved one or friend can help reduce stress and anxiety. Hugs help us feel calm and connected. They also help us to feel safe and secure. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs!
